The title of a sekkyobushi piece. Published in 1661 (Kanbun 1). The narrator is unknown. It is composed of six acts in the form of joruri, but retains the feel of old sekkyo in the material and concept. Princess Sayo, who sold herself to pray for the soul of her deceased father, travels to his residence accompanied by the narrator of the lord of Adachi County in Mutsu Province. The princess climbs onto a shelf set up in the middle of a pond as a sacrifice to a giant snake, and by the power of her recitation of the Lotus Sutra, she makes the snake repent, and then returns to the capital, prospering as a wealthy Matsuura man. This is an original story that later appears as Benzaiten on Chikubushima Island. [Iwasaki Takeo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
