This pairing was later renamed "form and matter" and "form and content," and served as a basic category in metaphysical modes of thought, as Kant points out in the chapter "The Ambiguity of Reflective Concepts" in "Critique of Pure Reason." It is safe to say that the pairings of "universal-individual" or "general-particular," which were particularly the subject of debate in the medieval universal debate, were also formed while being deeply intertwined with the above process.
