A Welsh-born British author, Jones' real name was Arthur Llewellyn Jones. He made his name with fantasy novels that were imbued with Celtic mysticism, and participated in the Order of the Golden Dawn, a group that could be considered a symbol of the British occult revival. In addition to Pan (1894), a story about an innocent woman who undergoes brain surgery and has a spiritual connection with a faun, and is transformed into a bizarre enchantress, and the autobiographical novel The Hill of Dreams (1907), Jones published The Archers (1915) during World War I, which depicts a scene in which an army of angels saves struggling British soldiers, and at one point this story was spread throughout the country as fact.

ウェールズ出身のイギリス作家。本名はジョーンズArthur Llewellyn Jones。ケルトの神秘観を宿した幻想小説で名を成し，イギリス･オカルト復興期の象徴ともいえる〈黄金の暁教団〉に参加した。無垢（むく）な女が脳手術を受けて牧神と精神的に交わり，奇怪な妖女に変身していく物語《パンの大神》(1894)，自伝的小説《夢の丘》(1907)のほか，第1次大戦中に発表した《弓兵》(1915)では苦戦のイギリス兵を天使の軍団が救う光景を描き，一時これが事実として国中に広まったというエピソードがある。
