...He went on to make Zorba the Neighbor (1965) with Anthony Quinn and The Fish Come Out (1967) with Candice Bergen, but his style gradually became detached from the realities of Greece, and, partly because he relied on Hollywood capital, some criticized his films as merely tourist films. On the other hand, it is questionable whether the series of films that Jules Dassin, who was driven out of the United States by McCarthyism, made after coming to Greece starring Melina Mercouri, such as Fate (1956), Sunday Is Not My Turn (1960), and Let Me Die (1962), can be called Greek films. Costa-Gavras has a similar problem: the French-Greek director's masterpiece Z (1968) was based on a novel by Greek author Vasílis Vasilikós about a real Greek assassination, but set in a fictional country.
