Majuranich - Majuranich (English spelling) Ivan Mažuranić

Croatian poet and politician. He studied law at the Zagreb Academy, and held key positions such as member of parliament, chief administrator, and governor of Croatia (1873-80), and organized the school education system. His greatest achievement as a poet is perhaps the epic poem "The Death of Smail Aga Cengic" (1846), which succinctly depicts in octosyllabic form the struggle of the Montenegrin people against the long period of Turkish rule, and calls for the unity of the South Slavic peoples.
