German women's activist and writer. Born in Kassel, Hesse, to a privy councillor, she moved to Detmold in 1834. She became interested in democratic ideas after meeting Theodor Althaus (1822-52), the son of a local pastor who was studying under Kinkel at the University of Bonn at the time. Although she did not take any direct action during the 1848 revolution, she followed its progress with a passionate eye. After the defeat of the revolution, she went to Hamburg in 1850, where she became a teacher at the Women's University, which had been founded by the Free Church Freie Gemeinde based on FWA Froebel's educational ideals.

ドイツの婦人運動家，文筆家。ヘッセン･カッセルの枢密顧問官を父としてカッセルに生まれ，1834年デトモルトに移住。その地の牧師の子息で，当時ボン大学のキンケルのもとで学んでいたアルトハウスTheodor Althaus(1822‐52)との出会いを契機として民主主義思想に傾倒する。48年革命期には直接の行動はしなかったものの，その行方を熱いまなざしで見つめる。革命の敗北後は50年ハンブルクへ赴き，同地で自由信仰教会派Freie GemeindeがF.W.A.フレーベルの教育理念に基づいて創設した〈女子大学〉の教師となる。
