International Christian University

International Christian University

It is a private institution. It was founded in 1953 (Showa 28) through half a century of donations from Japanese, American, and Canadian Christians, with the idea of establishing an international university based on Christian principles. It is abbreviated as ICU, which stands for International Christian University. It is said that the donations from overseas are a reflection of regret and atonement for the atomic bombing of Japan. ICU's educational structure incorporates the ideals of American liberal arts, and as of 2010 (Heisei 22) it has a Department of Arts and Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. It is characterized by an international faculty of Christians, the common use of Japanese and English, and international exchange with universities overseas. It is located at 3-10-2 Osawa, Mitaka, Tokyo.
