A general term for insects in the Hemiptera family Nabidae, or one of these. This family is very similar to the Assassin Bug family, but is distinguished by its long, four-segmented proboscis, lack of a vocal groove, the base of the forelegs opening backwards, the claw-like part of the forewings being long and the joint longer than the scutella, and its weak feel. There are about 300 species in the world, and more than 22 species in Japan. They live on the ground, on grass, in trees, etc., and are all insectivorous. Many species are natural enemies of pests.

半翅目マキバサシガメ科Nabidaeの昆虫の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。本科はサシガメ科によく似るが，口吻（こうふん）は4節で長く，発音溝がふつうなく，前脚の基部が後方に開き，前翅の爪状（そうじよう）部が長くその合せ目は小楯板（しようじゆんばん）より長く，軟弱な感がするなどの点で区別される。世界に約300種。日本に22種以上いる。地上，草上，樹上などに生活し，すべて食虫性。害虫の天敵となる種類が多い。
