Japanese: 鵯越 - ひよどりごえ

A place name that appears in the Tale of the Heike. The slope that descends from this mountain to Ichinotani in Suma Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a cliff mentioned in the Tale of the Heike, which states that "it is not a place where people should cross, much less horses." In 1184, Minamoto no Yoshitsune ran down the slope in one go to attack the Heike clan that were stationed at Ichinotani, and he got behind the Heike and won the battle.
