1887‐1951 German geographer. Born in Frankfurt am Main, he studied history and philosophy before switching to geography. He was influenced by E. von Drygalski, A. Penck, and T. Fischer, and was taught by E. Bruckner, E. Oberhumer, and N. Krebs in Vienna. His works include "Morphology of the Peloponnese and South and Central Greece" (1921) and "Political Geography" (1925), as well as treatises on southeastern Europe, the Mediterranean region, North Africa, and Brazil.
