EC 3.4.21.36. An enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of elastin and other proteins. It has specificity for hydrolyzing the acid amide bond at the carboxyl side of neutral amino acids in peptide chains. It is found in animal pancreatic juice, and the one isolated from pig has a molecular weight of 2.5 x 10 4 . Serine residues are important for activity.
