Tour of Uji - Uji Meguri

Japanese: 宇治巡り - うじめぐり
Tour of Uji - Uji Meguri
The title of a jiuta/koto piece. It is a Kyoto-style tegotomono (traditional Japanese folk song) composed by Matsuura Kengyo. It is one of the "Matsuura no Yotsumono" (four Matsuura songs), along with "Shiki no Nagami," "Yotsu no Tami," and "Midnight Moon." The koto was performed by Yaezaki Kengyo. The lyrics were written by Tanaka Koji. While spelling out the brands of Uji tea, the piece describes the scenery with the opening verse in spring, the middle verse in summer, and the final verse in autumn. The piece is structured as follows: opening verse - tegoto (makura, tegoto, chirashi) - middle verse - tegoto (makura, tegoto, chirashi) - final verse. The sangen changes from hon-choshi (main chord) to ni-agari (secondary up) for the middle verse and san-agari (second downward) for the final verse. The koto changes from han-kumo-i-choshi (secondary up) to hi-choshi (first vertical up) to chu-kuro-choshi (first vertical up).
