A small village near the western edge of Yorkshire in central England. It is in a mountainous area, which is rare in England, and the climate is particularly harsh in winter. Few people live in the desolate surrounding area, and there is no industry. Since the Reverend Patrick Bronte, father of the writer Bronte sisters, was appointed to the church here in 1820, the sisters spent most of their lives here until their deaths, and their solitary life in the midst of nature became a source of inspiration for them. The parsonage is now the Bronte Museum. [Shigeru Koike] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
