Chenāb River (English spelling)

Japanese: チェナーブ[川]（英語表記）Chenāb

It is one of the five rivers of the Punjab in northern Pakistan. It is 1,215 km long. It originates in the Punjab Himalayas and flows almost south, then flows down to the Punjab Plain and then flows southwest. It joins the Jhelum and Rabi, then joins the Sutlej to form the Panjnad, and finally joins the Indus. The Lower Chenab Canal was built in 1892, and the Upper Chenab Canal in 1912, each with headworks at Khanki and Malara on the west bank. Both canals irrigate the Rechna-Doab area surrounded by the Chenab and Rabi.

パキスタン北部，パンジャーブ五河の一つ。全長1215km。パンジャーブ･ヒマラヤ山脈中に発してほぼ南流し，パンジャーブ平原に流下してから南西流する。ジェラム川，ラービー川を合わせたのち，さらにサトレジ川と合流してパンジナード川となり，やがてインダス川に合流する。1892年には下チェナーブ用水路，1912年には上チェナーブ用水路が建設され，おのおの西岸のカーンキとマララに頭首工をもつ。両用水路はチェナーブ川とラービー川とに囲まれたレチュナ･ドアーブ一帯を灌漑する。
