Bishop and saint in the Frankish period. A Frankish nobleman with blood ties to the Carolingian dynasty. After serving as court secretary to Charles Martel, he became Bishop of Metz. After 754, at the request of Pepin III, he succeeded Boniface and carried out church reform. He created the cohabitation rules for the clergy based on the Benedictine Rules. His introduction of the liturgy and holy relics from Rome not only led to the Romanization of the Frankish Church, but also strengthened the political relationship between the Carolingian dynasty and the Papacy. フランク時代の司教，聖人。カロリング家と血縁関係をもつフランク貴族。カール･マルテルの宮廷書記官を経て，メッツ司教となる。754年以後，ピピン3世の要請で，ボニファティウスの後を継いで，教会改革を行う。ベネディクトゥス会則をもとに聖職者の共住制会則を作成した。彼によるローマからの典礼および聖遺物の導入はフランク教会のローマ化のほか，カロリング家と教皇庁の政治的関係の強化となった。【徳田直宏】
