Norwegian novelist and playwright. He portrayed the existential aspects of the human condition and always sought new forms of writing. His Pirandello-esque While We Wait (1938) was an experimental play about a man who fears to prove his existence. His Day of Liberation (1963) is an absurdist play about evil. His novel The Little Prince (1955) is a masterpiece about a boy who desires liberation from his mother, and I (1959) is the story of a man who seeks sin to confirm his identity. ノルウェーの小説家，劇作家。人間状況の実存的様相を描き，常に新しい様式を追求した。ピランデロ風の《我らの待つ間に》(1938)は，自己の存在証明を恐れる男を描く実験劇。《解放の日》(1963)は悪についての不条理劇である。小説《小公子》(1955)は母からの解放を願う少年を扱った傑作であり，《私》(1959)は自己確認のための罪を求める男の話である。また短編小説にも非凡な才能を発揮した。【毛利三弥】
