German composer and music educator. He taught at the Altdorf teacher training institute near Nuremberg from 1833, and at the Schwabach training institute from 1845. He made a great contribution to education, and his Lessons in Composition (1846), Piano Lessons (1847), and Violin Lessons (1849) were translated into many languages and went through many editions. In Japan in particular, Homann's lesson book was the only one used for beginner violinists until the 1970s, but in recent years, a variety of teaching materials, including those by Czech violinist Otakar Ševčík (1852-1934), have also been adopted.

ドイツの作曲家，音楽教育家。1833年よりニュルンベルク近郊のアルトドルフの教員養成所で，45年以降シュワーバハの養成所で，それぞれ講師を務めた。教育の面で大きな貢献をなし，その《作曲教程》(1846)，《ピアノ教則本》(1847)，《バイオリン教則本》(1849)は各国語に訳されて多くの版を重ねた。とくに日本では，昭和50年代までバイオリンの初心者入門用にもっぱらホーマンの教則本が使われていたが，最近はチェコのバイオリン奏者シェフチークOtakar Ševčík(1852‐1934)の教本その他の多様な教材も採用されている。
