…He was knowledgeable in geography and the study of divination. In the former, he participated in the compilation of the Daqing Yitongzhi, which was led by Xu Qianxue (1631-94). He also studied the Yu Gong chapter of the Shangshu, the oldest geography book, and wrote the 20-volume Yu Gong Suishi, which clarified the changes in water flow since the Han dynasty. In the latter, in the 10-volume Yi Tu Mingbian, he argued that the He Tu Luo Shu and the Tai Chi Tu, which were revered by Confucian scholars, were made by later Taoists and could not be trusted, and this became the accepted theory thereafter.
