Economic growth rate

Economic growth rate
The rate at which the size of a national economy expands over a certain period of time. It is usually expressed as the annual (or fiscal year) growth rate of gross national product (GNP) or national income (→ national disposable income). Economic growth rates can be expressed in two ways: nominal (expressed at current prices) and real (expressed at constant prices at a certain point in time), but it is common to use real growth rates that eliminate price fluctuations. For example, when asking about Japan's economic growth rate, it is expressed as the growth rate of real gross national expenditure (gross national product) compared to the previous year. In addition, the economic growth rate used in economic plans over a relatively long period of time (5 to 10 years) is calculated by compounding the above growth rate over the same period.
