Masayoshi - Gakei

Japanese: 雅慶 - がけい

926－1012 A monk from the mid-Heian period.
Born in 1600. Son of Prince Atsumi. Received the abbotship from his elder brother Kancho, a Shingon sect priest, and then from Gango. After serving as the head priest of Kanshuji Temple and the head priest of Ninnaji Temple, he became the head priest and legal affairs officer of Toji Temple and the head priest of Mount Koya in 1604. The following year, he became the head priest of Todaiji Temple. In 1605, he was promoted to Daisojo (Great Priest) and passed away on October 25, 1606. He was 87 years old. He was commonly known as Kanshuji Daisojo and Nagisa Sojo.

延長4年生まれ。敦実(あつみ)親王の子。真言宗の兄寛朝,ついで元杲(がんごう)から灌頂(かんじょう)をうける。勧修寺(かじゅうじ)長吏,仁和寺別当などをへて長徳4年東寺長者・法務,高野山座主となる。翌年東大寺別当。寛弘(かんこう)8年大僧正にすすみ,9年10月25日死去。87歳。通称は勧修寺大僧正,渚僧正。
