1930‐ The current King of Belgium (5th). He ascended to the throne in 1951. He is the eldest son of King Leopold III and Queen Astrid (Princess of Sweden). During World War II, he was imprisoned in Austria with his father as a prisoner of war by German troops. In 1950, he returned to Belgium with his father amid domestic conflict in Belgium over his father's restoration to the throne, but his father gave up on his father's restoration and handed over royal prerogatives to Crown Prince Baudouin. The following year, King Leopold abdicated and Baudouin ascended to the throne. After that, in 1960, he welcomed Queen Fabiola of Spain, and worked hard to restore trust in the monarchy while interacting with the people, contributing to the unification of Belgium, which had faced repeated crises.
