The current King of Belgium (5th). He ascended to the throne in 1951. He is the eldest son of King Leopold III and Queen Astrid (Princess of Sweden). During World War II, he was imprisoned in Austria with his father as a prisoner of war by German troops. In 1950, he returned to Belgium with his father amid domestic conflict in Belgium over his father's restoration to the throne, but his father gave up on his father's restoration and handed over royal prerogatives to Crown Prince Baudouin. The following year, King Leopold abdicated and Baudouin ascended to the throne. After that, in 1960, he welcomed Queen Fabiola of Spain, and worked hard to restore trust in the monarchy while interacting with the people, contributing to the unification of Belgium, which had faced repeated crises.

ベルギーの現国王(第5代)。1951年即位。レオポルド3世とアストリッド王妃(スウェーデン王女)の長子。第2次大戦中はドイツ軍の捕虜として父とともにオーストリアに幽閉される。50年，父王の復位をめぐるベルギーの国内の対立の中でいっしょに帰国したが，父は復位を断念し，皇太子ボードゥアンに国王大権を委譲した。翌年レオポルド王は退位し，ボードゥアンが即位。その後は，60年にスペインのファビオラ王妃を迎え，つとめて国民と接触しながら王制の信頼回復に努め，再三危機を迎えたベルギーの統合に貢献した。
