Hotei-eso (English spelling) scaleless black dragonfish

Hotei-eso (English spelling) scaleless black dragonfish
A deep-sea fish of the family Polytminae in the order Polytminae (illustration). It has one barbel equipped with a light-emitting organ at the tip of its lower jaw. Its body is long and slender, almost cylindrical. It uses the light-emitting organ on its barbel to lure prey, and then uses its sharp teeth to catch and swallow whole fish, even fish of the same size as itself. Its teeth can only be tilted inward in its mouth, making it difficult for prey to escape once caught. This feeding habit has made it well adapted to the deep sea, where there is little food. It has a large, long, slender light-emitting organ just in front of its eyes, and there are also rows of dot-like light-emitting organs along the underside of its body and the ventral surface.
