A genus of Charophyte, the body of which resembles that of the genus Flascos, but which belongs to the subfamily Charoideae because the female reproductive organ has five crown cells. It is distinguished from other genera by being dioecious and by having star-shaped asexual reproductive organs in rhizoid-like parts that grow from the bottom of the body. The Japanese name comes from the star-shaped asexual reproductive organs. One species, N. obtusa Groves, is known in Japan and is known to grow in Lake Ashi, Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Nojiri, and Lake Inban. The algae can reach a diameter of 1 mm, a height of over 2 m, and an internode length of over 20 cm. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
