Born in 1817. Her real name was Nawo. She started out as a tea maiden in Asakusa, Edo, before becoming a prostitute in Shin Yoshiwara. She took the body of her executed lover, Kataoka Naojiro, and built a grave for him. She is famous for being adapted into storytelling pieces such as "Tenpo Rokkasen" by Shorin Hakuen II and "Kabuki play "Kumonimago Ueno Hatsuhana" by Kawatake Mokuami.
