Hat Act

Japanese: 帽子法 - ぼうしほう(英語表記)Hat Act
Hat Act
An act issued by the British Parliament to the North American colonies in 1732. It was one of the colonial industrial restrictions imposed by the British mercantilist policy. Felt hat manufacturers in London, already struggling with competition from France, feared the expansion of the colonial hat industry and pressured Parliament to enact the act. It stipulated that (1) the import and export of hats between the colonies be prohibited, (2) only apprentices with seven years of experience were permitted to make hats, (3) each manufacturer was limited to two apprentices, and (4) black apprentices were prohibited.
