Chapman, FH

...Runners are steel blades that can be thought of as larger versions of ice skate blades. They are said to have been invented in Northern Europe in the 16th or 17th century, but the version we see today was first designed by FHChapman of Denmark in 1768. They later spread to the northeastern United States and Canada, and are practiced on frozen rivers, lakes, and bays.
