... In Edo near the end of the Edo period, various okoshi sellers were seen. Okama okoshi, which were peddled in the shape of a hagama (a rice cooker), were seen during the Bunka era (1804-18), and during the Koka era (1844-48), at the opening of Takanawa Sengaku-ji Temple, there was a koshi called gishi okoshi, where samurai dressed as they were going on a raid carried a large hammer-shaped object and put okoshi inside it and sold it.
