The Chronicle of the Great Heisei Period -

Japanese: 宝永水府大平記 - ほうえいすいふたいへいき

In 1706 (the third year of the Hoei period), the Mito domain asked Matsunami Kanjuro to carry out the "Hoei Reforms" to restore finances, including increasing taxes, reorganizing the monopoly system, and building inland shipping routes. However, from the end of 1708, an opposition movement by farmers throughout the domain became more active, and in January 1709, several thousand people traveled to Edo to negotiate with the domain's residence, and by setting up a system to block the palanquin of the domain's lord on his way to the funeral of Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, they forced the domain to surrender, resulting in Matsunami's dismissal and the suspension of the reforms. This book is one of the private records that conveys the course of events (the original is owned by Ouchi Hayao, Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and is included in "Nihon Shiso Taikei" 58).

水戸藩は1706年(宝永3)松波勘十郎を頼み，年貢増徴，専売制改組，内陸舟運路建設など財政立直しのための〈宝永改革〉を展開した。しかし08年末から全藩農民の反対運動が盛んになり，09年1月には数千人が江戸に上って藩邸と交渉を重ね，将軍徳川綱吉の葬儀に臨む藩主の駕を道に阻止する態勢を組むことで藩を屈服させ，松波の罷免，改革の停止をかちとった。この事件の経過を伝える民間記録の一つが本書である(原本は茨城県日立市大内隼男所蔵，《日本思想大系》58所収)。
