Born: February 24, 1842 in Padua Died June 10, 1918. Italian poet and composer from Milan. Born Enrico Giuseppe Giovanni Boito. Pen name Tabia Gorrio. Known as the librettist for Verdi's Falstaff (1893), Otello (1887), and La Gioconda (1876) for Amilcare Ponchielli. He studied at the Milan Conservatory from 1856 to 1861, and went to Paris on a scholarship, where he became friends with Verdi and wrote librettos for him. His own opera Mefistofele, which premiered at the Milan Theatre in 1868, was revised and revived in Bologna in 1875.
