Also known as oblateness or degree of oblateness. A number that indicates the degree of flatness of a planet, etc. The larger this value, the flatter it is. Planets are not perfect spheres due to their rotation, and are generally flattened spheroids. This is the ratio (a-b)/a, obtained by dividing the difference between the equatorial radius a and the polar radius b of the spheroid by the equatorial radius. For planets, the largest is Saturn's 0.096, followed by Jupiter's 0.062, and Earth's 0.0034.
