Plantagenet King of England (reigned 1154-1189). He was originally the Count of Anjou in France, but as the grandson of Henry I, he became King of England and the founder of the Plantagenet dynasty. He had vast territories in France, and greatly increased royal power by expanding the assizes system, adopting the jury system, and reforming the military system. He fought with Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, and killed him. → Related articles John [Lackland] | Northampton | Norman dynasty | Matilda | Richard [I] Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
