Diary literature from the Kamakura period. Two volumes. Contains articles up to 1252 (Kencho 4). The author, Ben no Naishi of Gofukakusa-in, was the daughter of Fujiwara Nobuzane, a master of portrait painting (birth and death years unknown). Along with her sisters, Shosho and Shosho no Naishi, she was an excellent poet. The diary began to be written in 1246 (Kangen 4), when Emperor Gosaga abdicated, and continued intermittently for seven years until 1252, after Emperor Gofukakusa ascended to the throne. However, the end of the diary that is currently handed down has been lost, and it is known that the author continued to serve Gofukakusa until 1259 (Shogen 1), seven years later, when he abdicated, so it is believed that the diary was originally written up to that time. It is a collection of cheerful articles about the Emperor's actions and court events, and has a strong official character, but it also shows the author's witty, humorous and innocent personality. It contains 304 poems and six linked verses, so it is also called the "Bennojikeshu."

鎌倉時代の日記文学。二巻。1252年（建長4）までの記事がある。作者後深草院(ごふかくさいん)弁内侍は似絵(にせえ)（肖像画）の大家藤原信実(のぶざね)の女(むすめ)（生没年未詳）。姉妹の藻壁(そうへき)門院少将、少将内侍とともに優れた歌人であった。内容は後嵯峨(ごさが)天皇譲位の1246年（寛元4）に起筆、ついで後深草天皇即位以後断続的に52年まで7年間のことがあるが、現在伝わる日記は末尾が散逸しており、作者はさらに7年後の1259年（正元1）後深草譲位まで奉仕していたことが知られるから、本来はこのころまで書き継がれたものと思われる。天皇の行動や宮廷行事に関するもので公的性格が強く、めでたいこと、おもしろいことなど明るい記事の羅列であるが、機知とユーモアに富んだ天真爛漫(らんまん)な作者の個性もよく出ている。歌が304首、連句が六句あるので、「弁内侍家集」とも称される。
