A former town in Ashina County in the southeastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The area is centered on the alluvial plain of the Ashida River, and the Fukuen Line runs through the town. In addition to rice cultivation, the town is also active in the textile and dyeing industries. Bingo Kasuri (woven textiles) is particularly famous. Wholesale trade is also thriving.
