Beelzebul

The name of the chief demon who appears in the Gospels of the New Testament. It is considered to be another name for Satan. He is also called Beelzebub, which is thought to be influenced by Baal Zebub, who appears once in the Old Testament, 2 Kings. Baal Zebub was the god of the Philistines who opposed the worship of Yahweh. There are various theories about the relationship between Beelzebub and Baal-Sebub, but it is not certain. In any case, it is believed to be a local name or a name limited to a specific era.
