An old town occupying the mountainous area in the upper reaches of the Uda River in Uda County, Nara Prefecture. The main settlement, Matsuyama, developed as a market town where a six-day market was held. The town produces vegetables, cedar, and cypress, and also raises livestock. It is famous for producing Yoshino kudzu. In January 2006, it merged with Utano Town, Haibara Town, and Muro Village in Uda County to become Uda City. 47.44 km2 . 8,949 people (2003). 奈良県宇陀郡,宇陀川上流域の山地を占める旧町。主集落松山は六斎市が開かれた市場町として発達。蔬菜,スギ,ヒノキを産し,牧畜も行う。吉野葛の産で有名。2006年1月,宇陀郡菟田野町,榛原町,室生村と合併し市制,宇陀市となる。47.44km2。8949人(2003)。
