Herwegh - Georg Herwegh

German poet. Born in Stuttgart. His "Poems on the Living" (1841), with its elegant rhythm and passion, created a great sensation throughout Germany at the time of the revolutionary climate of the times. After 1842, he became friends with Karl Marx. During the March Revolution of 1848, he led the rebel army of Baden in battle against the government forces. He later deepened his understanding of the revolutionary labor movement through the German socialist F. Lassalle, and eventually transformed into a "singer of the proletariat." The famous "League Song" (1863) of the All-German Workers' Association was based on lyrics written by Herweg.

ドイツの詩人。シュトゥットガルト生まれ。格調の高いリズムと熱情に支えられた『生きる者の詩』（1841）で、革命的な時代風潮にあった全ドイツに一大センセーションを巻き起こす。1842年以後、カール・マルクスと交友。48年の三月革命では、バーデンの反乱軍を率いて政府軍と戦う。その後、ドイツの社会主義者F・ラサールを通じて革命的労働運動への理解を深め、やがて「プロレタリアートの歌い手」に変貌(へんぼう)していく。全ドイツ労働者協会の有名な『同盟歌』（1863）は、ヘルウェークの作詩によるもの。
