Morotsukayama

A mountain on the border between Morotsuka Village and Takachiho Town in northwest Miyazaki Prefecture. It is 1,342m above sea level. It is also called Nanatsuyama or Taihakuyama. The geology is made up of Paleozoic limestone, slate, and sandstone. At the top of the mountain is Morotsuka Shrine (which was renamed from Nanatsuyama Shrine in 1925), and there is a legend that a man named Taihaku came to this mountain from Wu in China and prayed in seclusion. 宮崎県北西部，諸塚村と高千穂町との境界にある山。標高1342m。七ッ山または太伯山（たいはくやま）ともいう。地質は古生代の石灰岩，粘板岩，砂岩などからなる。山上には諸塚神社(1925年七ッ山神社から改称)があり，中国の呉から太伯という人物がこの山に来て参籠したという伝説がある。北麓にはフクジュソウの自生地がある。【下村 数馬】
