Hans Böckler

1875‐1951
German labour activist and politician. Born the son of a coachman near Feld. He became a goldsmith and silver leaf worker, and joined the German Metalworkers' Union (DMV) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) around 1894. He lost his job for joining the May Day movement, and lived an unstable life as a union activist until World War I. He served on the eastern front during the war, and after being wounded and discharged he returned to union activities and briefly served as secretary of the Central Labour Community. He was a member of the Cologne city council from 1924 to 1928, and was elected to the Reichstag from 1928, but was arrested twice in 1933 and went underground.

ドイツの労働運動家，政治家。フェルト近郊に御者の息子として生まれた。金銀箔職工となり，1894年ころドイツ金属労働者組合(DMV)，社会民主党(SPD)に加入した。メーデーに加わったために職を失い，第1次大戦までは組合活動家として不安定な生活を送る。大戦中東部戦線で従軍し，負傷して除隊すると組合活動に復帰，一時，中央労働共同体の書記を務める。1924‐28年，ケルン市議会議員となり，28年以来帝国議会議員に選出されたが，33年には2度逮捕され，以来地下に潜伏する。
