…The larvae usually metamorphose within 2–3 months, but some species overwinter as larvae. In some species, such as the upside-down frog Pseudis , the larvae (25 cm long) are much larger than the adults (7 cm long).
[Systematics and classification]
The distant ancestor of frogs is thought to be Miobatrachus , which branched off from labyrinthodont amphibians that flourished in the Triassic Period, and had a frog-like head and a long tail.
