For example, it can refer to birds and animals that eat grass leaves, insects, mammals that eat plants, and birds and animals that eat plant leaves. Furthermore, the meaning of (2) can also include animals that eat not only living plants but also dead plants (dead trees, fallen leaves, etc.), for which there is another term, phytophagous animals. Herbivores in the broad sense of the word, as herbivores, live by consuming plant bodies made by plants from inorganic compounds, and occupy a position in which they supply their bodies as food to carnivores in the broad sense. From the perspective of material circulation on Earth, they can be said to play the role of primary consumers, and from the perspective of animal communities, they can be said to play the role of key industry animals that support carnivores.
