1927‐ French chanson singer. Born in Toulon, he showed extraordinary musical talent from an early age, and later studied composition at the Conservatoire de Nice. He moved to Paris to pursue a career in music, and while working on short films, he was noticed by chanson singer Jacques Pils, who became his piano accompanist. Pils noticed Bécaud's talent for composition, and introduced him to Bécaud, releasing songs such as "I'm Head Over Heels for You" and "The Cross," which made him famous.
