French chanson singer. Born in Toulon, he showed extraordinary musical talent from an early age, and later studied composition at the Conservatoire de Nice. He moved to Paris to pursue a career in music, and while working on short films, he was noticed by chanson singer Jacques Pils, who became his piano accompanist. Pils noticed Bécaud's talent for composition, and introduced him to Bécaud, releasing songs such as "I'm Head Over Heels for You" and "The Cross," which made him famous. He began singing in 1953, and his passionate singing style quickly became a big hit.

フランスのシャンソン歌手。トゥーロンに生まれ,幼いころから音楽に非凡な才能を示していたが,長じてニースの音楽学校に入り作曲を学んだ。音楽で身を立てるためパリに出て,短編映画の仕事をしているとき,シャンソン歌手ジャック・ピルスに認められ,彼のピアノ伴奏者となった。ベコーの作曲の才に目をつけたピルスの紹介で《わたしはお前に首ったけ》《十字架》などを発表して名を高めた。1953年以降は歌手として登場,情熱的な唱法はたちまち大評判となった。
