The Bayliss Affair

Japanese: ベイリス事件 - ベイリスじけん
The Bayliss Affair
A "blood libel" case against Jews in the final days of Imperial Russia. The defendant was a Jew named Menahem Mendel' Beilis (1874-1934). On March 20, 1911, a 12-year-old boy was found dead in a suburb of Kiev. In the midst of anti-Semitic propaganda organized by right-wing nationalists, the legal authorities ordered the investigation into the case to proceed with the case as a "ritual murder," and the Jew Beilis was arrested on July 21 of the same year. This sparked protests from various circles both inside and outside Russia, who saw it as a baseless fabrication.
