A port city facing the Indian Ocean in central-eastern Mozambique. It is the administrative capital of Sofala Province. It is a major port for Zimbabwe and Malawi in particular. Its main exports are sugar, corn, tea, cotton, leather, as well as chrome ore from Zimbabwe, copper, zinc, and tobacco, and its imports include petroleum, fertilizer, wheat, railway parts, automobiles, and textile products.
