A former town in Yamamoto County in northern Akita Prefecture. It has a large forested area and is a center of Akita cedar production. There is a large timber yard in the main settlement of Futatsui along the Yoneshiro River, and lumber, plywood and furniture manufacturing are thriving. The Ou Main Line runs through the town.
