Born: June 30, 1791. Metierre Died March 16, 1841. French physicist in Paris. He studied medicine at the University of Strasbourg, but developed an interest in vibration phenomena from an early stage, which was recognized by J. Biot. In 1827 he became a member of the Academie des Sciences in Paris. In 1828 he became professor of experimental physics at the Collège de France, where he taught acoustics. He studied acoustics, optics, electromagnetism, fluid mechanics, and more, and is best known for his Biot-Savart law, which describes the interaction between electric currents and magnetic poles.
