Matsue - Shoko

A district of Shanghai in eastern China. Located in the southwest of Shanghai along the Huangpu River. Population: 595,378 (2013). Songjiang Prefecture in the Yuan Dynasty, Songjiang County in 1914, incorporated into Shanghai from Jiangsu Province in 1958. In 1998, it became a district of Shanghai. It is one of the centers of the agricultural region surrounding Shanghai, producing rice (double cropping), cotton, wheat, and rapeseed, as well as pig farming, freshwater fish farming, and vegetable cultivation. Machinery, spinning, metallurgy, chemical, and food processing factories are located here. It is connected to central Shanghai and Hangzhou by the Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway, and functions as one of Shanghai's satellite cities. It is home to the Xingsheng Temple Pagoda (square tower) built in the Song Dynasty.

中国東部、上海(シャンハイ)市に属する市轄区。上海市の南西部に位置し黄浦江(こうほこう)に沿う。人口59万5378(2013)。元代の松江府治で、1914年松江県となり、1958年江蘇(こうそ)省から上海市に編入された。1998年同市の市轄区となった。上海の近郊農業地帯の一中心地で、米(二期作)、綿花、小麦、ナタネ(アブラナ)を産するほか、養豚、淡水養魚、野菜栽培が行われる。機械、紡績、冶金、化学、食品加工などの工場が立地する。滬杭(ここう)線によって上海の中心部や杭州(こうしゅう)と連絡し、上海の衛星都市の一つとして機能している。宋(そう)代に建立された興聖教寺塔(方塔)がある。
