…It does not have a special writing system, but is not merely a code or a cipher, and is said to have a grammar. It was first collected by linguist Charles Godfrey Leland in 1876 from a wanderer in London. At one time it was thought to be a dialect of the Gypsies, but the theory that it belongs to the Celtic language family became more and more popular, and some have identified it with the language of the Picts, which is said to have an even older origin.
