Wenshin Choryo

This is the first systematic and comprehensive literary theory book in China, written by Liu Xing, a Chinese writer from the Liang Dynasty of the Six Dynasties. It is also called "Wen Xin Choryu". It has 10 volumes and 50 chapters. Five chapters from "Yuan Dao" to "Bian Zou" discuss the principles of literature, 20 chapters from "Ming Shi" to "Shu Ji" discuss stylistics, 24 chapters from "Shen Si" to "Cheng Qi" discuss the principles and methods of rhetoric, and the final chapter, "Preface", describes the motivation for the work. Written when Liu Xing was in his 30s, that is, towards the end of the Six Dynasties Qi Dynasty, "Wen Xin" refers to the care required for composing a piece of writing, and "Zhong Long" refers to carving a dragon and embellishing it. He placed the foundation of literature in carving and embellishing it, respected the beauty that emerges naturally, corrected the evil of competing only in technical skill at that time, and preached that we must return to the spirit of the classics. Along with his contemporary Zhong Yun's "Poetry," it is considered a masterpiece of literary theory.

中国、六朝(りくちょう)梁(りょう)の文人、劉勰(りゅうきょう)の著した体系的かつ総合的な中国最初の文学理論書。「ぶんしんちょうりゅう」ともいう。10巻50編。「原道」から「弁騒」の5編は文学原理論、「明詩」から「書記」の20編は文体論、「神思」から「程器」の24編は修辞の原理や方法を論じ、最後の「序志」は著作の動機を述べる。劉勰が30代、つまり六朝斉(せい)の末ごろに書かれたもので、「文心」とは文をつくるための用心であり、「雕竜」とは竜を雕(ほ)る、雕琢(ちょうたく)潤色のことである。彼は雕琢潤色に文学の基本を置き、自然に発露する美を尊重、当時の技巧のみを競う弊害を正し、経書の精神に回帰しなければならないと説いた。同時代の鍾嶸(しょうこう)の『詩品(しひん)』とともに文学理論の名著とされる。
