An inlet in the southeastern part of Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada. It is 240 km deep, 32-64 km wide, and 120 m deep at its maximum. It was discovered by SM Frobisher in 1576 and was initially thought to be a strait, but in 1860 it was confirmed to be a bay. At the head of the bay is Ikarit (Frobisher Bay), the largest settlement on Baffin Island and the capital of Nunavut. A trading post was built here in 1914, and it was used as an airbase during World War II, and later as a northern guard post and a weather station.
