Japanese: ブレチネイデラ（英語表記）Bretschneidera sinensis Hemsl.

A deciduous tree with one species in one genus and one family, thought to be one of the remaining plants, found in mountainous areas at altitudes of 500-1500m in central and southern China, and growing to a height of 10-20m (illustration). The leaves are odd-pinnate compound leaves that are about 80cm long and alternate with 7-15 elliptical to narrowly ovate leaflets. The inflorescence is a compound raceme 20-30cm long, borne at the terminal end. The flower is about 4cm in diameter, with five red petals, a bell-shaped calyx, and eight stamens (occasionally five to nine). The ovary has three locules, each containing two ovules. The fruit is an elliptical-spherical capsule with a long diameter of 2-4cm.
